COPRINELLUS CINNA LAMP

Picture
Picture
Nature as inspiration
Design by Biomimicry. My inspiration comes from this species of little mushroom called Coprinellus that can be found all over the world. Its common name "ink cap" comes from the black ink-like liquid it secretes. To this name, I have chosen to add the term domestica to recall the house. This word will serve as a link with another lamp in the range: Parasola dometica that I also designed. The advantage of this mushroom is that it comes in a variety of hat shapes / patterns. It is this idea that is used to justify the use of different up-cycled fabrics for their manufacture.

Process and materials
In order to bring a touch of modernity and to enhance the fabric, the rest of the lamp is made of a material that can also be made from "old". Whether it is recycled plastic, metal or glass, I suggest it to be covered with a smooth white paint. White may be a neutral shade, but it is also evocative of elegance and calm. Perfect for emphasizing the curve of the foot bathed in light without erasing the recycled fabric of the hat. Its neutrality will go with all possible fabrics and enhance their texture.

The Coprinellus lamp features two hats made from reused fabrics. The hat being quite small, it could easily be cut from an old curtain, a cushion, a leftover fabric used to make a sofa ...
Picture
The fabric protrudes well below the bulb to create a play of light through the fabric and to prevent direct light from the bulb.
A counter-form of the same material painted in white allows you to easily cover it with fabric. The counterform emphasizes and helps the fabric to take a nice fold.
This counter-form is attached to the rod + bulb structure using a screwed part inspired by mushroom's
lamellae. These slats also allow a play of light.

Each fabric hat is made of up-cycled fabrics. It is therefore possible to: -Either screen print it using a pen plotter, then sew it. -Either immersed in a black ink bath intended to darken it and reduce the visibility of defects on the fabric, then sewn.
